Pre-Law Advising

All students who expect to enter law school after attending NSU should maintain contact with the pre-law advisor in the School of Social Sciences, regardless of their majors and in addition to any other advisors. This is not a minor, major, or an emphasis. Instead, it is a way for students to better prepare for law school after obtaining their NSU degree. Since a high level of undergraduate academic performance is necessary for admission to law school, the pre-law advisor is prepared to offer special information and counseling to students and will work with the students' advisors and deans in these respects.

Students who desire to enter law school may do so by completing any appropriate curriculum. While many students planning to apply to law school select political science as their major, other majors such as sociology, history, English, or business are also acceptable. Students should select a major that will increase their vocabulary, writing ability, and analytical thinking skills. The major selected should be one in which the student excels. Any minor chosen should complement the The pre-law advisor will furnish information about majors, minors, and courses which are acceptable to and/or required by law schools.

While there is no "official" major, students are encouraged to take the following courses:

ECON 2000 - Macro-Economics
ENGL 2510 - Argumentative Writing
PHIL 2030 - Logic (Take the semester before the LSAT)
PSCI 3020 - The Judicial Process
PSCI 3090 - Constitutional Law
SPCH 2500 - Interpersonal Communication

Note that these classes are simply recommended and are NOT required.
