Areas of Specialized Competence:
Guin worked for over 15 years as an architectural conservator. Some of her projects include: the documentation and stabilization of Great Hall decorative ceiling at Drayton Hall, Charleston, SC; the documentation and evaluation of the exterior surfaces at the Guggenheim Museum, New York City, NY; the stabilization of Tiffany mosaics at St. Marks Church, Mt. Kisco, NY; and the evaluation of earthquake-damaged historic structures throughout Egypt as part of an international team. Guin also worked as a conservation scientist for the National Park Service for eight years. During her last three years with NPS she served as the DuPont Materials Research Fellow and worked with DuPont Corporation scientists to test stone treatments that may deter pollutant deposition. One common thread through all of her professional endeavors is her passion for cemetery preservation. Guin’s work on the Center Church Burial Crypt in New Haven, CT was honored with a merit award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. While working for NPS’ National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, Guin established a national initiative in cemetery preservation; it was honored with the Association for Gravestone Studies’ Harriette Merrifield Forbes Award in 2006.
